Library
Every Thursday your child will bring home books from the library. One book you can read to them or partner read (we call this the parent book), the other book they have to read to you (we call this the teacher book). There will be a book slip to sign and return to school for the book they read to you (the teacher book). Students will place a sticker on their chart for returning their signed slip. When they fill their charts they will get a special prize
Leveled Books
We have been very fortunate to have been given leveled books for your child to read. Four years ago CPO purchased book carts and leveled books for our school. Every week your child will take a book home to read to you at his or her level. Please keep the books in the plastic bag while in their book bags to help keep the book in good condition. It is very important your child returns the book by the following Friday in order to check out a new one.
Please fill out the book slips as well to let me know if the book is too hard or too easy. A general rule of thumb: 5 mistakes on a page, the book is too hard. Or if the book has only a few pages and there are 5 mistakes while reading it, the book is also too hard.
Have your child read the book to you 1-2 times before sending it back to school. Make sure the reading experience at home is positive so children will develop a love for reading.
Children wil.l also have the opportunity to earn stickers for their charts after the leveled book is read, the slip is signed, and both are returned
