My Math
This year we will continue to use our new math curriculum, My Math, based in the new Common Core Standards. This is a newer program for the whole district and has the ability to involve a lot of technology and an at home portion.
This math program has a homework section for each math lesson taught from the book. This year I will be following the program as written and adding additional support lessons throughout the year. Students will be coming home with math homework nearly every night. The math homework is an opportunity to practice and develop the skills that were taught during the school day. The homework will be taken as completion.

Expectations
One of the math expectations for first grade is to have fluency in addition and subtraction within 10. By the end of first grade students should be able to add and subtract within 10 quickly without relying on their fingers. We would like to start building up to that now. If you have math flashcards at home or if you can make some at home, please take a few minutes a night and have your child learn their math facts within 10 for both addition and subtraction.
