Computer Time

Moby Max

This year we are implementing a new computer program in what used to be the SME lab.  This year we will be using MOby Max.  This program is a five day program.  The students will begin each lesson by doing 5 minutes the Speed Games program which is the same as last year, and then complete about 20 minutes of the Moby Max lessons in the order presented below.  The mastery for each lesson will be set at 90%.  Students will repeat a lesson if they struggled with a particular skills.

Moby Max program is correlated with the New Illinois Learning Standards.  We will be using the program to support the student learning of these new standards throughout the school year.

This year we are using the program to help us monitor student growth throughout the school year.  We would love for students to use the program at home as well; HOWEVER, we are asking that families set up their own account at home so it does not adjust the scores and lessons we set up at school.

Moby Max is a free program to sign up and use at home and very easy to do.  If you would like help setting up your own account at home please call and I can guide you through the process.

Thank you for your understanding in not using the school’s Moby Max account at home with your child.  This will be a great help for us at school in monitoring student work and student growth.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Speed Games

According to the New Illinois State Standards students are expected to master (3 seconds per problem) their addition and subtraction math facts.  It is encouraged to work on addition and subtraction math facts at home throughout the week to build these math fact skills.

To help the students achieve mastery they will be working in Speed Games, a math facts program.  The students will be given 3 seconds to complete each math fact correctly.  As the year progresses the students will be expected to increase and receive mastery at different levels. Beginning in Quarter 3 the students will receive practice sheets if they obtain a score less than 90% at levels 1 and 2.  During Quarter 4 the students will receive a practice sheet if they obtain a score less than 90% in levels 1 through 5.  During these quarters practice pages from higher levels are optional for students to take home.  The practice sheets are to help students with the facts that they are struggling with so the students can master the given facts and for parents to see what facts within a level the students are struggling with. The practice sheets are to be completed at home, checked and corrected, and returned to school the next day signed and dated.
