Social-Emotional Learning

"A world full of love, light,a nd laughter- the time has come.  Let's make it happen.". Sadhguru
SEL

As we enter another school year we are happy to let you know that we will continue to utilize the PBIS system (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) at Centennial School. The premise of the program is to create a safe, effective, positive learning environment for every child by explicitly teaching behavioral expectations. We have spent the first 8 days of school teaching the rules, or “Cool Tools,” making sure all students know what is expected of them. By setting forth clear social and behavioral expectations and holding students accountable for following the school wide expectations, we are confident we will see an increase in student learning and a decrease in classroom disruptions. Our staff has developed a unique Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to ensure student success at Centennial School. There are new and colorful posters up all around the school to explain our expectations.

If a student does not follow a “Cool Tool” behavior 3 times or a variety of “Cool Tool” behaviors 5 times they will meet a teacher for a “Cool Tool” Reminder meeting. It is not a punishment, just a chance to teach appropriate behaviors.

Each student will be given a Polo Power card. If a student displays a behavior that would be considered “above and beyond” they can receive a fancy hole punch in their card. When the card is filled to a certain level they can turn in the card for a school wide drawing.

Our goal s to continue to have an open line of communication between home and school, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your partnership in teaching children. We are looking forward to a fabulous year!

Sincerely,

The SEL Team
