Wonders
This year we are implementing a new reading program called McGraw Hill Reading Wonders. I am excited to get started with this new program. Wonders is a New Illinois State Standard correlated reading program that includes many skills such as comprehension, phonics, grammar, spelling, writing, and much more. As I become more familiar with the program I will be adding information here as well.'m a paragraph.

Reading
AVERAGE 1st GRADE READING LEVELS throughout the year are listed below:
Grade 1- First Quarter (Levels 6-7)
Grade 1- Second Quarter (Levels 9-11)
Grade 1- Third Quarter (Levels 12-14)
Grade 1- Fourth Quarter (Levels 15-16)
When reading with your child remember these helpful Reading Animal Friends:
Lips the Fish~ Gets your LIPS ready! Say the first sounds of the word out loud, read to the end of the sentence and say the sounds again.
Eagle Eye~ LOOK at the picture! Look at the pictures for clues to help figure out the word
Stretchy Snake~ S-T-R-E-T-C-H it out! Say the word slowly, put the sounds together to fgure out the word
Chunky Monkey~ CHUNK the word! Look for a chunk that you know in the word (-ing, -and, -old, etc.), look for a word part (be-, -er, ect.)
Flippy Dolphin~ FLIP the vowel sound! Try the other vowel sound if it doesn't sound right.
Skippy Frog~ SKIP it, SKIP it! Skip the word, read to the end of the sentence, "Hop back" and read it again.
Tryin' Lion~ TRY IT AGAIN! Try to rereadthe sentence, try a word that makes sense.
